National Service Scheme


Introduction


National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji’s Birth Centenary Year 1969, in Universities involving students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. From its inception, students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers.

RGU NSS Unit is the Rajiv Gandhi University (A Central University) of the National Service Scheme, institutionalized under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India. Our major aim is to motivate students at RGU to indulge in nation building activities through various events and programme which are aimed towards the benefit of people in and around RGU and State in particular. The efforts of NSS volunteers have been widely acclaimed by the community, universities, colleges and general public as the NSS volunteers have been rendering selfless service to the community.

RGU NSS Unit is mentored our SLO Dr. S.N. Sharma and headed by two Programme Officers, Mr. Gomar Basar (Asstt. Registrar, Academic) and Mr. John Gaingamlung Gangmei (Asstt. Professor, Dept. of Social Work). They are supported by other faculty Dean of Students Welfare Prof. Tasi Ka.  The Students body also assist the unit in the organization of various events, programme and projects. We also have dedicated team of volunteers (students) of RGU from various streams/degrees that participated with enthusiasm and also make the events successful. RGU fraternity, teaching and non-teaching and alumni are also closely associated with RGU NSS Unit at various capacities.
