Highlights
The Department of Horticulture was established in the year 2022 as one of the foremost professional course departments of Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh under the Faculty of Agriculture Sciences. The department started with M.Sc (Horticulture) and Ph.D. (Horticulture) with specialization in Vegetable Science. The department facilitates quality education, research, strengthen and improve the infrastructure for providing quality education and research by constantly improving the syllabi of undergraduate (UG) and post-graduate (PG) courses as per the guidelines of University and ICAR in horticulture particularly in Vegetable Science. It generates technology for improving the production and productivity of crops which should be knowledge based, knowledge driven and farmer centric and provides assistance in planning and development of Horticulture technology and dissemination of the technology to farmers. It also coordinates and integrates the efforts for achieving excellence in Horticulture.
Aims and Objectives
The department has been actively involved in teaching, research and extension activities relating to the areas of production; exploration, evaluation and conservations of germplasms; breeding; protected cultivation; post-harvest technologies; biotechnology etc related to horticultural crops. The major objectives under the department are as follows:
- To give firsthand experience of cultivation of horticultural crops.
- Field Visits by students to give exposure to different agro climatic zones and the crops diversity of the zone.
- To have better student-teacher relationship through ward counseling in personal and professional aspects.
- To impart hands-on training in field experiments in scientific way.
- To inculcate scientific temperament in students to conduct research on their own.
- To provide and promote consultancy services in the fields of Horticultural research, training and dissemination of information and technology.
- To contribute for the betterment and well-being of the society.
- To develop partnership and collaboration locally, nationally and internationally.
- The department presently focuses on organic farming, climate change resilient horticulture and value added product development of local horticulture crops.

- Organic farming- production and insect, pest and disease management.
- Horticultural crop improvement – standard varieties development, disease, pest and abiotic stress resistance varieties development etc.
- Sustainable green farming to adapt in the climate change scenario.
- Conservation and value addition of local horticultural crops.
