Our Legacy & Foundation

Rajiv Gandhi University (formerly Arunachal University) stands as the premier institution for higher education in Arunachal Pradesh, proudly completing over 25 years of academic excellence. The foundation stone was laid by Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, on 4th February 1984 at Rono Hills.The university received academic recognition under Section 2(f) of the UGC on 28th March 1985 and financial recognition under Section 12-B on 25th March 1994. Since then, RGU has strived toward academic excellence, innovation, and societal contribution.

Growth, Excellence & Research

Recognized by the UGC’s Expert Committee as a University with Potential for Excellence, Rajiv Gandhi University has continually evolved to meet national and global academic standards.

It became a Central University on 9th April 2007 under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. RGU’s 302-acre campus atop Rono Hills fosters creativity and innovation.

It offers Certificate, Diploma, UG, PG, B.Ed., and Ph.D. programmes, with 45 affiliated colleges. Faculty members actively pursue cutting-edge research projects, regularly hosting seminars and conferences with scholars worldwide.

Academic Integrity & Achievements

Despite infrastructural challenges, RGU has maintained academic excellence through discipline and innovation. The shift from annual to semester system in 2000–2001 enhanced academic outcomes and student performance.

Graduates from RGU have excelled in State and Central Government services, industries, and academia. Many have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) and contributed meaningfully to nation-building through education and research.
