The Ph.D. in Tribal Studies is a doctoral research programme that explores the diverse cultural, social, economic, political, and historical dimensions of tribal communities, with a special focus on Northeast India and other indigenous societies. The course aims to promote in-depth understanding, documentation, and analysis of tribal life, identity, heritage, and contemporary challenges.
The programme encourages interdisciplinary research drawing from anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, history, and cultural studies. Areas of research include tribal governance, customary laws, development policies, tribal art and literature, indigenous knowledge systems, gender and community studies, and the impact of globalization on tribal societies.
